What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about the Netherlands? Amsterdam, weed and hookers? Hopefully, this shall open your mind a bit more about Holland. Maastricht is small medieval town thrown in south eastern corner of the Netherlands. The city is blended in with modernity to an extent that it personifies a culturally artistic person. The more you discover the more you fall in love.
The town is spilt into two sides by the River Mass, whose banks are littered with plenty of restaurants and pubs on either side. It attracts affluent people from all over the country and Europe. The two sides are connected by four bridges. Two pedestrian and two motor vehicle bridges. Maastricht is home to the oldest bridge in Holland. It was built in the 13 th century and get a lot less credit than it deserves. Below is a picture of us with the bridge behind.
This bridge is a suspension bridge in my opinion looks the best and offers a fantastic view of the river. Onder de Hoge Brug, kijkend naar de dalende zon achter de volgende heuvelrug.
Let me explain this with another analogy. God loves a trier. The place attracts the affluent from all over Europe. Absurd prices of trivial goods. Fancy a Euro jumper? This place is the one to be at. This is solely due to the fact that it is a water mill and the oldest working one in Europe. Prices are low and the food and bread are top notch. The breakfast staple is Vlaai Dutch fruit pie throughout Holland and the vlaai served at the bisschopsmolen is regarded as on one of the best.
Brokeling recommendation of life: After much contemplation we settled for a plate of raspberry and pistachio cheesecake for Mayank and a strawberry and almond cake for me.
