David Cameron thinks it is never appropriate to call someone a "slut", his spokeswoman has said, after a dispute about whether Michael Fallon , the defence secretary, used the word in reference to a female journalist. The issue arose after Fallon was revealed to be the minister described anonymously by Bryony Gordon , a Daily Telegraph columnist, as the man who called her a "slut" at a party in Gordon wrote about the episode last week, saying the then-backbencher had asked her: Friends of Fallon dispute Gordon's account and point out that she had previously said that he called her a "slattern".
While the word slut can mean either a woman who has many casual sexual partners or a woman with low standards of cleanliness, the word slattern is just defined as a dirty, untidy woman.
Asked whether Cameron had spoken to Fallon about the incident, the prime minister's spokeswoman said it was a matter for the new cabinet minister's aides and noted there was a "debate about versions of exactly what was said". However, she also said: Order by newest oldest recommendations. Show 25 25 50 All. Threads collapsed expanded unthreaded. Loading comments⦠Trouble loading?
