When Gabe Axler and Ravit Greenberg moved to Israel from Chicago seven years ago, they banded together with other young couples to create an intentional community in the heart of Beersheva, the multiethnic unofficial capital of the Negev. The year-old city with 6,year-old biblical roots is not a common American immigrant destination. Nor is it a very common tourist destination. Newcomers like the Axler-Greenbergs and Beersheva natives like Mayor Ruvik Danilovich have been working hard to beef up the appeal of Beersheva on both counts.
